Haifa to Jerusalem by Bus

My wife and I stop in Haifa over night on a cruise (MSC Magnifica). We are scheduled to get there at 1300 on Feb 21 and leave at 2000 on Feb 22. Since the excursions offered by the cruise did not allow much time in Jerusalem (5 hours), we have decided to get there on our own, spend the night, and then return to the ship the next day. After having considered traveling to Jerusalem by several methods (car rental, train, bus), we have determined that the bus is likely our best option. We THINK we have found the bus route we need to take, but we are having a difficult time finding some more information about the journey:1) What is the best bus stop to use from the Haifa port? The Egged website has a stop called "Ha-Ir ha-Takhtit, Port." Is this the bus stop nearest to where we will emerge from the port? How do we find the stop?2) We have attempted to find information about the reliability of the Egged bus schedule, but have had no success. As you can imagine, we will need to be certain to plan sufficient time on our return journey to ensure that our cruise ship does not leave without us. The bus schedule allows us to leave Jerusalem at 1630 and arrive in Haifa at 1845. Since our return trip will be during the evening rush hour, this itinerary leaves us a cushion of 1 hour 45 minutes for the bus to get through any delays that might be encountered. Is this reasonable? Are the buses usually relatively true to the schedule?Thank you in advance for any assistance you can lend!

Make Airport Security Less Painful

Hi everyone there, When traveling through the airport you see and hear many upset and angry people in the screening area. It really does not have to be that difficult if you plan ahead and prepare your luggage appropriately. The person who is angry is the one who came unprepared and packed prohibited items in his luggage. Liquids and gels seem to be the latest cause for grumbling at the screening checkpoint. The current regulations allow passengers to carry 3 ounce or smaller bottles of liquids and gels. The bottles must be placed in a one-quart, clear, plastic zip bag. One plastic bag per person is allowed, limiting the total you can carry. When you get to the x-ray place the zip bag in the security bin for screening, this will speed up the process. If you leave the liquids in your bag, your bag will be flagged and searched. There are some exceptions to the liquids and gels rule. Baby items such as food, formula, juice and *** milk are allowed in larger quantities. They will allow "reasonable quantities", no true amount is given, just pack what you feel you will need for the flight. Medications are also allowed and are subject to the "reasonable quantities" rule. Be sure to declare these items during screening to the make the process fast and painless. Keeping other prohibited items out of your carry on will also make for a much more pleasant screening process. Sharp objects such as knives, ice picks, razor blades swords and sabers are not allowed as a carry on. These items are allowed in checked baggage, but should be packed appropriately or sheathed to prevent injury to baggage handlers and inspectors. Sporting goods such as baseball bats, cricket bats, golf clubs, hockey sticks and more are not allowed as carry ons. No firearms can be carried on as well as self defense items, but they may be in checked baggage. Tools greater than 7 inches in length are also prohibited. Flammables and explosives are not permitted in carry on or checked baggage, with the exception of certain lighters, which may be carried on if they meet the current regulations. Check the TSA website for a current list of prohibited items before you travel.

Fun In Jerusalem for Kids and Teens

I found this great website and have to share it with all of you. Its called www.FunInJerusalem.com and it has a daily calendar of events in Jerusalem for kids and teens. Lots of the events are in Hebrew but at least i was able to sift through the information in English. They also have a list of attractions and they are honest about whether kids will enjoy them or not.  Being in a foreign country with your kids can be difficult but this website made my trip so enjoyable. Thanks!

Haifa and Galilee

Hello there.  We are travelling to Israel next month and are looking for tours and / or a guide from Haifa to tour the Galilee.  We will be in Haifa toward the end of October.  So far, everything I've seen originates in Tel Aviv or Jerusalem.  It does not appear to make sense for us to go back in order to go north.  Any suggestions?  Do the Haifa hotels have excursions to the Galilee?  How far is this and how are the roads?  Travelling time?  Would you recommend independent travel?  We are two mature adults and hope to spend 2-3 days in the area.   Thank you, Aliza

Looking for a licensed tour guide for Sept 25 and 26, 2011

Myself and 3 friends are going to be visiting Israel by cruise and we are looking to find a licensed tour guide for two days.  Looking for both a Jewish and Christian experience (1 Jew and 3 Chrisitians). We are mid 40's and we are two couples.  Robert and Barry the first couple and Michael and Mina the second couple. We are looking for on vehicle driver and tour guide to take us for both days.  Perhaps a combo driver and tour guide is best.  Please contact us at barrygleitman@gmail.com   Thank you, Barry

Visa required?

I will be traveling from the USA to Israel and staying for 2 weeks. I am confused as to if I need to fill out paperwork to apply for a visa prior to arriving in Israel. I have read on some websites that I need to bring specific documents to apply for this visa, and other websites state that I do not need to bring anything. As a US Citizen, will I receive a visa upon arriving to Israel, or do I need to fill out paperwork before arriving to Israel? Any information you can give me would be very much appreciated! Thank you!

great spa in Israel!

Comfort and relaxation are two things that remain key for me wherver I am, even when I'm travelling. When I came for a family member's wedding in October, I knew I had to find a good spa. Plus it's a bit funny to tell people now about my amazing massage in Israel, where everyone in the US (people unaware of what Israel's really like) think terrorists are running around on every street corner. Anyway, I really loved the spa I went to. It was in Givat Shmuel, somewhere outside or near Tel Aviv, I can't really say exactly where since a family member drove me there. And it was called Ivria. The site is something like, ivria.co.il It's only for women, so unfortunately if you're looking for a cute couples massage for Valentine's Day this isn't the place. But it was still amazing and they have everything there-manis, pedis, hair stylists, make up artists, massages, facials, even a couple mikvahs.  unfortunately I could only afford one thing so i got a stereotypical aromatherapy massage, but it was great. i hope this place stays in business long enough so i can go back on my next visit!

Shoutbox and Internet friends as fellow travellers

I often use travelling sites to meet new people. I like travbuddy, for example, or specialized sites like this one) but recently i was chatting with a guy from Russia who suggests travelling ti Israel to his granny. Is is safe, how do you think? have you ever travelled with somebody you know just by internet (at the Shoutbox) to the country you have never been before?

Bengurion airport secutity

Dear all! I've came yesterday from this beautiful country, everything was great except the airport security,I was on vacation travelling for the first time. I had nothing special in my case, usual personal belongings, but the airport security decided to examine my case almost for an hour!!! Examined my underwear, examined my empty suitcase,it was absolutely disgusting to be treated as a possible terrorist, it's the humiliation of the rights! In the end this awful procedure has spoiled the whole impression of the country, it's absolutely unacceptable to treat tourists like this!!!!!!!
